Isaac Batty, the Manx youth competing in the UEC European Mountain Bike Downhill Championships in France, suffered a crash today when the rider in front of him stopped in the middle of the track.

It is not known why the organisers slotted a younger rider in between Batty and another competitor Max Eddon in today's practice and qualifying but onlookers said "they can’t understand why they [the organisers] did it as it was clearly dangerous."

The young rider from Spain was caught by Batty and wouldn't pull over, but instead stopped. The visibility was reduced due to dust and Batty ploughed in to the rider causing him to crash.

Batty has a sore hand and wrist but regardless of the injury, he will be on the staring line for tomorrow's race.

Despite the crash, Batty finished the run and is seeded 55th from 90 for tomorrows race. Prior to the crash he was in around 10th position.

With 30 second starts on race day, Batty fears he will catch other riders.

The course has been described as 'a serious track' and the competition levels are high.

The race gets underway at 12:45 local time (11:45 BST).
